Why this farm is here

S.C. Sooyman (Windwaai, 1933) held it, and no kinship to the Oosthuizen, Marincowitz or Van der Merwe lines is recorded, this ground entered through the land, not the family. 8 km from Klaarstroom.

Research notes

[31 Jul 2026 inbox] 'WINDWAAI portion of KOUDE VELD' - Portion 9 of Klein Valie, cut out of Portion 2, surveyed Nov 1932 and transferred 7 Sep 1933 to S.C. SooymanH on deed 5651 (DOC-0121). Its antecedent is deed 11089 of 8 Oct 1919 to A.P. Muller J.C. sonM, which is the same deed that carries Oude Kraal and Koude Veld on the 1833 verso - so the 1919 buyer of two of the five pieces was selling out of one of them fourteen years later. AREA CHECK: 374.8479 morgen converts to 321.0 ha against a modern 319.0 - agreement to 0.6%, the closest yet in this model. Two Eskom servitudes crossed it in 1990 (DOC-0122).

[13 Aug 2026] Renamed to the one form this model uses for every portion - the portion's own name, then the parent farm, its number and the portion in brackets - so that a name is legible in a list, a search result and a map popup without the reader having to know which farm number is which. It read "Windwaai (Klein Valie Ptn 9)" before. Nothing about the ground changed.

The research behind this page, kept separate from it: dated working notes, open questions, and what is not yet settled.

What the record is missing

Found by breaks.py reading the model against itself, not written by hand, each one is a shape of missing record, not a fault in the data. The whole set is on the questions page.
