His own death notice gives his birthplace as 'MIDDELWATER, C.C.' - so Wynand van Zyl and Johanna Jacomina Oosthuizen were ON HER FATHER'S FARM when this son was born, four years after their marriage. It is the first documentary placing of a van Zyl household on Middelwater itself. DATE: the model carries 29 April 1839; the notice's '55 jaar 4 maanden en 12 dagen' at death implies about 10 November 1839. Both 1839, neither corrected.
