Among the witnesses: JACOBUS VAN ZEYL AND SUSANNA CATARINA OOSTHUISEN, the other brother and the other sister, standing for their nephew. Also Jacobus Johannes Oosthuisen and Anna Magdalena Strydom, Cornelis Petrus van Zyl, and Geertruida Gouws. TWO BROTHERS, TWO SISTERS, TWO BABIES A FORTNIGHT APART, ONE FONT. Being a getuige means standing there. So the COUPLE, TOGETHER, is documented at Beaufort West on 19 August 1838. He had not gone ahead and left her.
