The Bloemfontein kerkraad talks him out of founding a town

He had already had erven surveyed when the predikant and kerkraad of the NG gemeente Bloemfontein - OF WHICH HE WAS HIMSELF AN OUDERLING - persuaded him to drop it: a new town inside Bloemfontein's parish boundaries would hurt the congregation's finances. He gave way, and then went ahead anyway in 1866. [FAMILY]
