Rotate 180 before reading anything off it. | WHAT IT IS, from the overview: a large regional survey plan in three sheets, of which this is sheet 1, with 'SHEET 2 JOINS HERE' on one edge and MOSSELBAY beyond another. It is a GAZETTEER OF FARMS rather than a diagram of one - scores of them, named and numbered, with the mountain ranges drawn in hachure. | *** IT COVERS THE GROUND THIS PROJECT HAS SPENT A WEEK HUNTING. *** District names legible on the face include CANGO, KAMMANASSIE, WYNANDS RIVER and what reads as ATTAQUAS, and the farms include Zeekoegat, Volmoed, Buffelsdrift, Grootkraal, Doornkraal, Andries Kraal, Kruis Rivier, Boschkloof, Matjesgoed Valley and Buffels Vlei. That is the Oudtshoorn and Cango country on the SOUTHERN OLIFANTS - the river system 'de Modder Fonteyn, gelegen aan d'Olifants rivier' (PAR-000065) has to be read against. LEAD-0220. | WHY A REGIONAL PLAN IS WORTH MORE HERE THAN A DIAGRAM. The three Swellendam opgaafrollen name no farms at all (SRC-487 to SRC-490); this names dozens, with numbers, on one sheet. Where the rolls say who was in a district, this says what the ground in it was called. | TO DO: rotate, tile at native resolution, and read the farm names and numbers against the model's Oudtshoorn, Uniondale and Willowmore parcels. ALL THREE SHEETS ARE HELD - 3600_S1, 3600_S2 and 3600_S3, arrived within minutes of each other. | THE FILES ARE ON DISK BUT NOT IN GIT. SG diagrams are normally committed here and 237 of them are, because they cannot be re-fetched by a script the way the CC0 opgaafrollen can. These three are held out on SIZE alone - about 21 MB each against a 508 MB repository - and the .gitignore line says so and how to reverse it. LEAD-0241. | WHAT IT DID NOT: NO MODDERFONTEIN APPEARS ANYWHERE IN THE F.C. LOWER OLIPHANTS RIVIER. That is a negative worth having and it does not settle LEAD-0220, because the 1832 Uniondale diagram (SRC-508) puts the 1809-era ground in the BOVEN Olifants field-cornetcy, a different unit which this plan does not carry under that name. | *** [20 Aug 2026] ITS CSG DOCUMENT NUMBER IS 2468/1879. *** This row's reference calls the plan 'SG 2440 OB' and treats 2468/1879 as one of two survey references on the face. In the Chief Surveyor-General's index the plan is filed as GENERAL PLAN 2468/1879, in three pages, at furls /images6/lrgplans/3600_S1.TIF, 3600_S2.TIF and 3600_S3.TIF - which is where Frans's filenames 3600_S1.jpg etc. come from. It is reached by querying any Oudtshoorn farm it covers (farm 14 returns all three sheets). '2440 OB' is the registration number on the sheet, not a key the index answers to, and 'sgkey 3600' returns a different document entirely: a 1:12500 Knysna compilation sheet, AM-1AB.
