THE 1776 MODDER FENTEIJN MAN. MOOC8/16.11a-b, 7 December 1776 (SRC-467): the estate of WILLEM MARTEN OOSTHUIJSEN, widow SARA PRETORIUS, three children - Johannes Marthinus 10, Wessel 6, Willem 2. His opstal stands on 'de leening plaats genaamt de MODDER FENTEIJN gelegen aan de CAFFER KUIJLSRIVIER', taxed at Rd 10, and the inventory was taken by the SECRETARY OF SWELLENDAM, Menso Blankensteyn. That ground is titled as MODDERFONTEIN No. 417, Riversdale, by diagram 592/1831 (SRC-466).
HE IS A SON OF JAN HENDRIK OOSTHUIJSEN (PER-001828) and Anna BothaM, from the FamilySearch family view `[FS]` - which makes him a BROTHER of Marthinus of Welbedagt (PER-001851) and a FIRST COUSIN of Ockert (PER-000118). Two brothers, two farms, one on the Kafferkuils and one on the Olifants.
He is absent from the shared export (SRC-464) entirely, as are his widow and his son Wessel, so FamilySearch holds him where that file does not. LEAD-0224.
[2026-09-23, SRC-683] HIS ESTATE, MOOC8/16.11a-d, read in full: widow SARA PRETORIUS; sons Johannes Marthinus 10, WESSEL 6 (so born about 1770; the field cornet of MOOC8/37.48 in 1821 and the 1825 memorial) and Willem 2; the opstal on 'de Modder Fenteijn gelegen aan de Caffer Kuijlsrivier', which the neighbours call de Hectors / Hekdoors Craal, at Rd 10; 575 sheep, 53 cattle, 400 lb of aloe; Rd 381:2. DOC-0379 (MOOC8/16.11a, b, c and d, 1776-06-25) lists a household's whole movable estate, which means officials went to where that household lived. It says “the loan place de Modder Fenteijn aan de Caffer Kuijlsrivier, also written de Hectors Craal / de Hekdoors Craall” and no more. No parcel is attached, so the family it describes sits nowhere on the map.
What would settle it The inventory's own heading usually names the farm and the field-cornetcy; where it does not, the deceased's quitrent or opgaaf entry for that year will. This is the shape that produced the de Bruin/Rondabel find.
Found by breaks.py reading the model against itself, not written by hand,
each one is a shape of missing record, not a fault in the data.
