Supplied by , as page images of the opening bladz 1-7 together with the target card. | THE ENTRY, as read: "'t kind ADRIANA CICILIA / ouders / JAN LOUWRIES VENTER / JACOMINA SMIT / getuygen / Francoys Alewyn Smit / Cicilia Oberholster / Abraham Erasmus / Adriana Smit". | *** THIS IS PER-000002, AND IT IS THE FIRST DOCUMENT THIS PROJECT HAS FOR HER OWN BIRTH. *** She is the woman who married Ockert Almero Oosthuizen at Swellendam in October 1807 and bore the fourteen children the Koup line descends from. Her parentage from Jan Louis Venter and Johanna Jacomina Smit stood on a [TREE] link at medium confidence; the register names both parents and the tree is confirmed rather than corrected. Her birth stood as a bare year, 1792, from the family-tree at low confidence - the register gives the BAPTISM as 25 November 1792. NO BIRTH DATE IS STATED, so none is asserted. | *** THE WITNESSES ARE THE MOTHER'S KIN, AND THE SAME PEOPLE RECUR ACROSS THIS OPENING. *** FRANCOYS ALEWYN SMIT and CICILIA OBERHOLSTER stand here; a month later, on 25 December 1792 (bladz 7), THEIR OWN daughter Cathrina Adriana is baptised with ABRAHAM ERASMUS and ADRIANA SMIT standing - the same two who stand here. And Francoys Alewyn Smit with Cicilia Oberholtter also stand for Jacobus Smit's daughter on bladz 4. One Smit connection, three fonts, six weeks. | AND THE PARENTS APPEAR AS WITNESSES THEMSELVES on bladz 7: "JAN LOUWRIES VENTER / JOHANNA SMIT / Johannes Hendrik Venter / Hester Jacoba van Taarsveld" at the baptism of Johannes Nicolaas, child of Teedo van der Wald and Maria Elisabet Venter. The couple is named together, which is what confirms this is one household and not two same-named people. | ALSO ON THESE PAGES, recorded because they are this district's other families and not followed further: DANIEL JANSEN VAN VUUREN and Sara Bekker baptise Johannes Marthienus on 16 December, witnessed by STEFANUS PETRUS JANSEN VAN VUUREN - relevant to LEAD-0281 only as evidence that van Vuurens were at Graaff-Reinet in 1792, NOT as an identification. MARIA ELISABET OOSTHUYSEN, wife of ANDRIES HENDRIK KRUGEL, on bladz 6 - see below. PETERNELLA JACOBA SCHOEMAN and MARIA STRYDOM stand as witnesses on bladz 7. | *** [23 Aug 2026, ON A ZOOM SUPPLIED WITHIN THE HOUR] THE [?] ON BLADZ 6 IS RESOLVED: IT READS OOSTHUYSEN. *** The entry is "'t kind Johannes Gideon Hendrik / ouders / ANDRIES HENDRIK KRUGEL / MARIA ELISABET OOSTHUYSEN / getuygen / Gideon van der Nest / Helena Cloudina Krugel / Harmanus Potgieter / Peternella Margreta Krugel". The initial letter is drawn with the same loop this hand gives its C, which is why it was marked on the full-page scan; at this magnification the reading is Oosthuysen, and Costhuysen is not a name. | SHE IS IN NO WAY CONNECTED HERE YET. She is not among the thirteen children of Jacobus Oosthuizen (b.1722), so she is not a sister of the 1755 Ockert. No person row: 6 admits a loose witness only for an occasion IN THIS DISTRICT, and Graaff-Reinet in 1792 is not. LEAD-0284.
