HOW IT WAS SWEPT, so the result can be repeated or doubted. Every distinct surname in people.csv - 300 of them - was put through the library's own search at /cgi-bin/ncdosearchGraves.pl in exact-match mode, and the results were filtered by the first path segment of each photograph URL, which is the collection. That is an exact district filter rather than a guess at a place name. 167 of those surnames returned something: 3,889 photographs, 2,810 distinct stones. WHAT WAS TAKEN FROM IT: THREE STONES, and nothing else. A stone enters this model when it carries a person this record already holds, matched on the given names AND the surname AND both years. Everything else is a surname in a district full of that surname - Calvinia's main cemetery alone holds over a hundred van der Merwe stones - and does not join people on a name. The rest of the sweep is kept as a search that can be re-run, not as data. CALVINIA RURAL IS 100 FARM CEMETERIES and each album names its farm and farm number, which is the same number the CSG cadastre uses. That is the part of this source still unworked.
Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
