TRANSCRIPTION, verbatim, from the Dutch form. "Kennisgeving van Sterfgeval overeenkomstig de voorziening vervat in de 9de afdeling der Ordonantie No. 104." 1. Naam van den overledene: "Izaak Johs. v.d. Merwe C. A. Zoon". 2. Geboorteplaats van den zelve: "Tygerhoek in deze wijk, Hantam". 3. Namen der Ouderen: "Carel Aron v.d. Merwe". 4. Ouderdom van den overledene: "30 jaren, 11 maanden, 26 dagen". 5. Stand in de Maatschappij: "Boeren arbeid[er]". 6. Gehuwd, of ongehuwd: "Gehuwd geweest met Sophia Maria Jacoba v.d. Merwe". 7. Wanneer overleden: "den 11 Mey 1839". 8. Alwaar overleden: "op de plaats Inkelde wilgeboom in deze wijk, Hantam, Dist. Hantam" (the first word is written Inkelde and is almost certainly Enkelde, the ordinary Cape farm name Enkelde Wilgeboom, but it is transcribed here as it stands). 9. Namen der kinderen, alle minderjarig: "1. Elsie Johanna Wilhelmina. 2. Anna Louisa. 3. Johanna Elizabeth Sophia. 4. Maria Catharina Jacoba (ongedoopt), alle minderjarig". 10. Of de overledene eenige Eigendommen heeft nagelaten: "Neen my onbekend". Addressed "aan den Veldkornet Wm. P. Burger, Hantam" and signed "C P van der Merw[e]". WHAT THE AGE GIVES. 30 years 11 months 26 days before 11 May 1839 puts the birth about 16 May 1808, at Tygerhoek. That is the earliest date this project can put the family in the Hantam.
