THE ENTRIES: 1 name CATHARINA JACOBA MAGDALENA NIEHAUS. 2 birth place IN THIS COLONY. 3 parents BERNARDUS CHRISTIAAN GODLIEB NIEHAUS and NEELTJE JOHANNA STORM. 4 age 44 YEARS. 5 condition in life FARMER. 6 married to HENDRIK JACOBUS STORM. 7 day of decease 23 DECEMBER 1862. 8 died AT THE RESIDENCE AT JAN WILLEMSFONTEIN. 9 six children, all MINORS: Hendrik Willem Storm, Neeltje Johanna Storm, Jacob Abraham Storm, Magdalena Marthina Storm, Andrias Stephanus Storm, Jan Jacobus Storm. 10 property '114 OXEN, 360 SHEEP, 8 HORSES, 1 WAGON, 1 KART & HOUSEHOLD FURNITURE'. Died with a will. Signed H.J. STORM, her husband. THIS IS THE KNOT. She is the daughter of NEELTJE JOHANNA STORM, and she married HENDRIK JACOBUS STORM, son of NEELTJE'S BROTHER Hendrik Willem Storm. THEY WERE FIRST COUSINS. The Storm-Niehaus connection this project had been describing as 'affinal, one step off the line' is a double knot: a Storm daughter marries a Niehaus in 1813, and her daughter marries back into the Storms a generation later. IT ALSO NAMES HIS FIRST WIFE. Hendrik Jacobus Storm's own 1879 death notice [SRC-304] gives his wife as ANNA DOROTEA BOTES and lists thirteen children. This notice shows the first six were hers, not Anna Dorotea's - so he was widowed in December 1862 and married again. The eldest of those six is HENDRIK WILLEM STORM, the 'junior' that made the 1855 membership roll call his great-grandfather 'Senr'. A NEW PLACE: JAN WILLEMSFONTEIN, where she died and where the household was farming. It is not in this model. 114 oxen and 360 sheep is a substantial working farm, not a smallholding. AND A SECOND DEATH IN ONE FAMILY IN ONE YEAR: her husband's brother JAN WILLEM STORM died 14 September 1862 [SRC-305] and she died 23 December 1862, three months apart.
