The citation as it was given

THE ENTRY, VERBATIM: 'NYS of De NYS: Jan Nys, ook genoem Jan de Rye. v. Dusseldorf. trou Mauritius (as soldaat) 8.8.1694 met Lysbeth Fockese Roda. In 1696 is hy boswagter op Mauritius en in 1699 burger aan die Kaap. oorlede 1713.' IT BREAKS A DESCENT THIS SITE HAS BEEN CARRYING. Jan Nys was a GERMAN FROM DUESSELDORF WHO CAME OUT AS A SOLDIER. He married at Mauritius on 8 August 1694, was a boswagter - forest ranger - there in 1696, became a burgher at the Cape in 1699 and died in 1713. That is an immigrant's life, and it leaves no room for him to be the Cape-born son of Jacob Jansz de Nijs and Marij Zacharias. EVERY OTHER FACT IN IT CHECKS AGAINST RECORDS ALREADY HELD, which is what makes the one new fact usable: the marriage date and the bride match the FamilySearch family view exactly (8 August 1694, Mauritius, Lijsbet Jansz Fockese de Roode); 'burger aan die Kaap in 1699' matches the Cape baptism of April 1701 [SRC-300], where he is at the Cape with a wife Elisabeth; and 'oorlede 1713' matches the estate inventory of 22 May 1713 [SRC-299]. Four independent agreements. IT ALSO REDEEMS A PLACE STRING. The private tree puts his birth at DUESSELDORF, which this project had discounted, because 5 treats the family-tree's places as systematically wrong. Here the place was right and the PARENTAGE was wrong - the reverse of the usual failure, and worth remembering before the next place is thrown away. SECONDARY, AND MARKED SO. A published genealogy is a compilation, and the volume, page and edition have not been seen [TO VERIFY]. What would make it primary is the Mauritius marriage entry of 8.8.1694, or a VOC soldier's record naming Duesseldorf. LEAD-0118, LEAD-0119.

Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
