About 1767. He joined the Dutch East India Company in 1780, at thirteen or so, and was at the Cape by 1781 - described as the first Italian immigrant to the Cape of Good Hope. Nineteen years old when he stood as a witness at the font in 1786 and a farming family took his middle name for their own. SCOPE: the head of the trail, bounded per 9a. This event exists so the timeline can show where the name ENTERS; it is not an invitation to research Venice further.
