A fourteen-year-old drives three teachers over the Swartberg Pass

Almero Jacobus Hitge Oosthuizen, aged 14, took three lady teachers from the Prince Albert school over the new Swartberg Pass to Oudtshoorn in a mule cart, down the 'Die Top' zig-zags at dusk to make Droewaterval before dark, and came home by moonlight complaining about the shrieking. During term he boarded with ds Adriaan Hofmeyr at the parsonage. Four years after the pass opened. [SRC-074]
