Jacobus Oosthuysen baptised, with a single witness
22 November 1722 · family · Drakenstein
[SRC-094] "Jacobus, Zoon van JAN OOSTHUIJSEN en JANNETJE MARTENS. Getuijge SUSANNA GARDE." THE OLDEST ORIGINAL DOCUMENT IN THE PROJECT, and the deepest verified point on the Oosthuizen line. One witness, where his grandson's 1786 baptism would have seven - the family's network in the colony was still thin. The register writes the parents by their spoken names, Jan and Jannetje; the tree carries them as Johannes and Johanna. Congregation not printed on the page [TO VERIFY]; the surrounding names are Huguenot and Drakenstein is the expectation.
