What this establishes

Ten lines in a field cornet's spelling: a tea table, a wagon chest, a cooking pot, a tea pot, a kettle, six earthenware plates, two porcelain dishes, six spoons, six forks, one gun, one bedstead, four bowls, one bed; two riding horses, a saddle, five horses, eight young oxen, twelve cattle. No wife, no children, no farm. It is the kit of a young man who rode and worked stock and had not yet set up a house.

The one Oosthuizen of that name and age in this record, Pieter Marthinus, Ockert's son, born in 1795, is ruled out: the George tax rolls have him alive in 1858. So the sheet names a namesake nobody here has placed, most likely of Gerhardus's line. It does not say where it was written; Hendrik Grobler and the two Bothas are the only hooks.
