Research notes
[5 Aug 2026 inbox] Second sheet of von Oppell's 30 July 1912 report. It carries the sentence that gives this document its interest: 'As Surveyor Stretch was one of the most unreliable men of olden days, I had no alternative but to go on local evidence.' He then made C the common point, made line CB fall on line CJ, and showed every departure from the old diagram in red on the attached sketch and on the subdivisional diagrams. NOTE WHAT THE COMPLAINT IS AND IS NOT: it is about BEACON POSITIONS, not about extents. Signed K.M. von OppellM, G.L.S.
The research behind this page, kept separate from it: dated working notes, open questions, and what is not yet settled.
