Calvinia district, Matjesfontein 791_1, farm cemetery
0 graves recorded
[11 Aug 2026, SRC-389] TWO albums, "Matjesfontein-791-1" and "Boerplaas_matjesfontein791_2", 24 stones between them. Recorded because farm 791 is one of the three Calvinia Matjesfonteins nearest this family's ground and therefore a candidate in LEAD-0151. THE STONES ARE LOUW AND VAN WYK, from Daniel Jacobus Louw 1807-1888 down to 2007, and NOT ONE IS A VAN DER MERWE. No burial here is linked to a person in this model. | [11 Aug 2026] CORRECTION: this row was first written with par_id PAR-000198, which is Matjesfontein No. 601. THESE CEMETERIES ARE ON FARM 791, a different Matjesfontein about 30 km away, and 791 is not a parcel in this model. The wrong link is removed rather than repointed. | [11 Aug 2026] COORDINATE ADDED, AND AN EARLIER NOTE ON THIS ROW WAS WRONG. It said eGGSA carries no GPS for these cemeteries. It does. The COLLECTION INDEX truncates each album's description at an ellipsis; the ALBUM PAGE carries the whole thing, including a line "Google Earth Project Information:- GPSID: nnnn GPS: -31 28.059, 19 45.950". Only the index had been read. THE FORMAT IS DEGREES AND DECIMAL MINUTES, not decimal degrees. -31 28.059 is -(31 + 28.059/60) = -31.46765. Read the obvious way it would put Calvinia four hundred kilometres out, which is exactly the class of error 5 exists for. eGGSA album Calvinia-rural/Matjesfontein-791-1. THE SECOND ALBUM, Boerplaas_matjesfontein791_2, is at -31.46053, 19.18892 - 1.7 km north-east, same GGSA cemetery id - so the farm carries two clusters of stones and this row takes the coordinate of the one that holds the Louw graves. AND THE COORDINATE CONFIRMS THE FARM. This project's cadastral centroid for Matjesfontein No. 791 is -31.4827, 19.1881; both cemeteries fall within about 2 km of it. The album name said 791 and the ground agrees, which is the check that was missing when this row was first written with the wrong parcel attached to it. This row and CEM-282 were the same burial ground. CEM-282 came in with the eGGSA album walk of 12 August 2026 and was not caught by the album-url check, because this row's url was the COLLECTION INDEX rather than an album — the two keys were never comparable. The same coordinate to six decimal places and the same GGSA cemetery number settle it. This row keeps the id and now carries the album's own url; CEM-282 was removed before it was ever built. AND IT IS ONE GROUND, NOT TWO. This row was written for both Matjesfontein 791 albums at once. eGGSA give them separate GPSIDs — 6443 for 791_1 and 8882 for 791_2 — which is their own per-burial-ground number, so they are two grounds. The coordinate recorded here is 791_1's, and 791_2 is now CEM-267. The name has been changed from the plural to match.

Photographed here, not yet read
17 photographs of this ground carry a caption on eGGSA that nothing in this project has yet matched to a person. The words are eGGSA's transcription of the stone, kept exactly as written; nobody here has read the photograph. Each one links to its own page on their site.
