SRC-172, Helena MarincowitzM, *Prince Albert and the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902)*, Fransie Pienaar Museum, 1999, p.36, in the words of her daughter Anna Snyders: 'We lived on the farm Remhoogte, 40 km from Prince Albert on the Klaarstroom road. Mother (Lenie du PlessisH) told me that during the Anglo-Boer War she was standing in the kitchen in front of the stove. Suddenly an English soldier appeared at the back door.' The book adds: 'Near Remhoogte is a grove of poplars and here Lenie du PlessisH and her children used to hide when they heard the Khakis coming along the road.' SHE IS A SECOND du PLESSIS WOMAN ON REMHOOGTE IN THE SAME WAR AND SHE IS NOT MIEMIE'S MOTHER SO FAR AS ANYTHING HERE SHOWS. Miemie's account (SRC-632) has 'our mother' hiding the children in the poplar grove and does not name her; this account has Lenie doing the same thing in the same grove. They may be one woman under her noemnaam, or two women in two households on one farm. 9 forbids settling that on the strength of a matching anecdote. [TO VERIFY] LEAD-0336.
