[15 Aug 2026] MERGED PER-000284 into this row. The 1909 baptism witness 'Hendrik Lodewijk Malherbe' is this man, the child's UNCLE, and not his great-grandfather. PER-000284's note said 'almost certainly Johanna Fredrika Malherbe's father and so FRANS'S 2x-GREAT-GRANDFATHER' - and THAT MAN WAS DEAD. Hendrik Lodewyk MalherbeL senior [PER-000755] died on 3 January 1901, eight years and eight months before the baptism of 12 September 1909. His son of the same name, born 20 February 1867 and living until 1943, was forty-two that day and is the only Hendrik Lodewyk MalherbeL in this model who could have stood there. The chronological test is the first rung of 5's evidence ladder and it settles this on its own. The child was named for the GRANDFATHER, which is what the vernoemingspatroon predicts and is why the note reached for him; being named for a man is not the same as being witnessed by him. [16 Aug 2026, SRC-446/447] "HENNIE". He went to the front with his three brothers in October 1899, fought at Spioenkop, and was one of the escort that took the 170 British prisoners to Elandsfontein Station. He and Pieter were later taken prisoner and sent to the GROENPUNT camp at Cape Town.
HE OUTLIVED BOTH THE BROTHERS WHO DIED BY FORTY-THREE YEARS, dying in 1943.
