Oorlogs Kloof 1846) and Hester Carolina Adriana (PER-000178, m. Gerolm Marincowitz 1844). STRONG CANDIDATE [TO VERIFY] for "N. HitgeM" (PER-000044), the 1841 grantee of the Vrolykheid title B.W.Q.5.18 - if confirmed, the title-holder of most of Vrolykheid is Frans's own 4x-great-grandfather, and the farm's route into Marincowitz hands ran through his daughter's 1844 marriage. Kept as a separate row from PER-000044 until a document names the grantee in full (PER-000043/PER-000208 precedent). See LEAD-0009. [30 Jul 2026] Named as the deceased's father on death notice 8586, spelled "Nicolaus HitgeH" there and "Nicolaas Hitges" in the 1846 baptism register, where he stands as a witness to his granddaughter. RELEVANT TO LEAD-0009: the 1841 Vrolykheid title B.W.Q.5.18 is held by an "N. HitgeM" (PER-000044, initial only). His son was farming and dying on Vrolykheid five years after that title. That is not proof the two N. HitgeMs are one man, but it puts this family on that ground, which the paper alone never did.

BIRTHPLACE given as Aitleiningen, between Grunstadt and Bad Durkheim - the Pfalz, which agrees with the 'Palatinate' already recorded and locates it. DEATH given as Baird Street, UITENHAGE, on 3 Aug 1848, where this row said only 'Cape'. The same profile lists the marriage to Mary Hunt at Uitenhage on 14 May 1820 and the six children, both of which this model already had independently - the 1844 Uitenhage marriage register in S012 names Nicolaus HitgeH and Mary Hunt as Charles Frederik's parents, so a register and a compiled tree agree without copying each other. [TO VERIFY] against the Uitenhage death notice, which would give the street, the estate and the heirs outright.

[5 Aug 2026, SRC-290/289] HIS OWN DEATH NOTICE, 1848 (SRC-289). It confirms this row on every field it touches and adds the one thing the model did not have: HIS TRADE. He was a SHOPKEEPER, and he died at his residence in BAIRD STREET, TOWN OF UITENHAGE, on 3 August 1848. Age given as '63 years 5 months 27 days', which back-computes to a birth about 6 February 1785 against the 5 February 1785 already held - agreement to a day. Parents 'Conrad HitgeM' and 'Sarah Hitge', matching PER-000476 and PER-000477. Signed by 'Mary Hitge, Surviving Spouse'. He left moveable AND IMMOVEABLE property and died TESTATE, so there is a will and an estate account.

[5 Aug 2026, web search] SECONDARY SOURCES ADD A TRADE HISTORY AND, IMPORTANTLY, A FARM THAT IS NOT WIT PLAATS. A published WikiTree profile has him arriving at the Cape in 1808 from ALT-LEINING (Alt-Leiningen, Palatinate), granted a plot on Main Street, Uitenhage in October 1814 'to build an inn which might prove a decoration to the town', living in Bairdstraat, and dying in 1848 OWNING PROPERTY IN UITENHAGE AND THE FARM SANDFONTEIN IN THE DISTRICT. The Baird Street address, the 1785 birth, the 1820 marriage to Mary Hunt at Uitenhage and the six named children all match SRC-289 exactly, which is what makes the profile worth reading at all. BUT IT IS A SECONDARY SOURCE and this project does not settle a land question on one. See LEAD-0097: if his estate really ran to Uitenhage property and Sandfontein, then Wit Plaats was NOT his, and the 1841 grantee 'N. HitgeM' is somebody else.
