A DISPUTED CLAIM, RECORDED SO THE DISAGREEMENT IS VISIBLE - not accepted. Frans's full tree makes him the FATHER of the stamvader: born 30 March 1648 at GRIJPSKERKE, ZEELAND, married Catrina Bouwmans at AMSTERDAM 28 June 1667, died at the Cape 25 October 1682. IF TRUE it would mean the family was already at the Cape three years before the muster roll, and the whole Woerden/Werden story belongs to somebody else. THREE REASONS TO DOUBT IT: (1) it contradicts every published account, which treats the 1685 man as the progenitor with no Cape father; (2) a son born 1672 in Amsterdam whose father died at the Cape in 1682 would have had to be back in the Netherlands to enlist at Woerden in 1685 - possible, but it is doing a lot of work; (3) the GRIJPSKERKE looks like it may have migrated from the STAMMOEDER's reported origin, Grypskerk in Groningen [SRC-097]. Needs a Cape death record for 1682 and a Grijpskerke or Amsterdam baptism to stand up. [TO VERIFY] UPDATE 29 Jul 2026 - NOW REJECTED, not merely disputed. The Amsterdam baptism this claim rests on [SRC-101] gives the child's father as Johannes and his mother as Catrina Bouwmans. If that child were our stamvader, the vernoemingspatroon would have made his first son JOHANNES and his second daughter CATRINA. They are GERHARDUS and BARBARA. The same test kills the rival Leiden candidate [SRC-102], whose mother is Antonette de Rede. The row stays as a tombstone so the reasoning is visible and nobody re-imports the claim from the tree.
