Baptised Stellenbosch before 5 Mar 1719, DIED AT TULBAGH 6 Feb 1777. Almost certainly the Zacharias de BeerH who with his wife Dina took the loan farm QUEECKVALLEIJ in the Koup in 1762 - the farm the town of Prince Albert was later laid out on (PAR-000048). [TO VERIFY] If so, this is the first of our families onto that ground, eighty years before anyone else in this history. AND HE WAS A TULBAGH MAN, like the Oosthuizens who married there in 1749.
[3 Aug 2026] THE DE BEERS ARE THE EARLIEST THREAD IN THIS WHOLE PROJECT, and the 1833 Wintervelt register page shows what they had become by the fourth generation. On one page, one Sunday, a de Beer baptises a child by a Horn; a Matthys Jacobus de Beer baptises a child by a JOHANNA CATHARINA JOACHEMINA VENTER; and Barend Petrus, Jan Adriaan and Catharina Joachemina de Beer stand as witnesses. Add the field cornetcy "of Mr De Beer" over the Koup in 1833-34, the 1851 marriage into the Oosthuizens, the 1849 marriage into the Mienies, and OKKER ALMERO DE BEER carrying the Venetian name - and the family that took Queeckvalleij in 1762 is connected by marriage to almost every line this project follows. [17 Aug 2026] THE TULBAGH OVERLAP, MEASURED. He died at Tulbagh in February 1777 and his children by Dina Margaretha van DykH were born in the LAND VAN WAVEREN in 1766 and 1777 - so the family held Kweekvallei in the Koup from 1762 while still living and baptising at Tulbagh. The Oosthuizens were in the same district across the same years: Jacobus and Dina Carolina BritzM married at Tulbagh on 10 April 1749 and had children there into the 1760s. No shared occasion between the two families has been found at Tulbagh, and none is claimed. See LEAD-0216. [TO VERIFY]

Jacobus Johannes Ockert Oosthuizen (b.1789, d. 16 Feb 1874), son of Marthinus of Tulbagh and a first cousin of the brothers who took up ground in the Koup, married Hilletje Elizabeth de Beer (b. about May 1788, d. 12 Dec 1873) around 1807. Was she of the de Beer family that had held Kweekvallei in the Koup since 1762? If she was, this marriage is a channel by which an Oosthuizen household could have learnt what ground was open behind the Swartberg.
