PARENTS: Isaak Willemsz van der Merwe 1711-1777 (LWRF-D3R) and CISILIA JANSE VAN RENSBURGH 1715-1774 (LH58-NW9), married 19 April 1732, Stellenbosch. EIGHT CHILDREN, five of them legible: Anna Sophia 1733-1774 (LWF2-HT4), Schalk Willem 1735-1778 (KLFS-1XL), Aletta 1738-1761 (GWWJ-N3G), Cecilia 1740-1781 (L7N1-JPY), Isaac 1745-1782 (LWXV-24L), Nicolaas 1747-1789 (LR8W-6NZ). TWO MARRIAGES: (1) Maria Johanna Theron 1735-1756 (LZGN-XBV), married 13 April 1755 at Stellenbosch, one child Maria Cecilia 1756-1826 (G7GD-YN3); (2) JOHANNA ADRIANA SMIT b. 1745 (LHPC-M77), married 15 JULY 1759 AT TULBAGH. *** IT CORRECTS AN ERROR THIS PROJECT PUBLISHED HOURS EARLIER. *** LEAD-0383 read the id LH58-NW9 off a parentage note and guessed she might be the unknown second wife. She is his MOTHER. The second wife is Johanna Adriana Smit, and since the first wife died in 1756 and Carel Aaron was born in 1771, she is almost certainly his mother. *** AND IT RAISES A CONFLICT ON THE DIRECT LINE, WHICH IS NOT RESOLVED HERE. *** It styles the father ISAAK WILLEMSZ - son of Willem. This model, and MOOC8/6.51 (SRC-698), make him a son of SCHALK WILLEMSZ van der Merwe and Anna Provo, whose 1740 estate lists an 'Isak' among their children. If the FamilySearch patronymic is right, a generation comes out of the direct line. See LEAD-0384.
