FETCHED 20 Aug 2026 while looking for a George-division equivalent of SRC-493, because the F.C. BOVEN OLIPHANTS RIVIER was a George unit (SRC-508). It is a cadastral sheet in the good old style: every farm carries its NUMBER, its NAME, ITS GRANTEE AND THE DATE OF GRANT. | *** WHAT IT CORRECTS. SRC-463 read two George farms off the provincial cadastre as MODDERAAS KLOOF Nos. 132 and 133. This sheet writes them, in a clear hand, as MODDENAARS KLOOF A (No. 133) and MODDENAARS KLOOF B (No. 132), both granted to JOHANNES MATTHEUS HEYNS on 1 August 1879. *** Moddenaars is Moordenaars - murderers' kloof, an ordinary Cape name - and it is not a MODDER name at all. One apparent Modder candidate in George is therefore removed rather than added, and the removal comes off an original rather than off a machine-readable name field. | Other farms legible on the sheet, for whoever works this country next: Doorn Rivier, Gemsbok Kloof, Kareemilks Hoogte, Wagenbooms Kraal, Fonteins Kloof, Palmiet Drift, Soldaats Kraal, Cabotor Kloof, Afgunst Rivier, Cradock Pass, Wilge Rivier, Klein Fontein.
