THE HEADING, as far as it can be read: 'Staat en Inventaris der goederen nagelaten en met er dood ontruijmt bij wijlen den burger JAN NIJS en desselfs overleedene huijsvrouw LIJSBET JANSE DE ROODE, ten voordeele van desselfs DRIE KINDEREN genaamt ANTJE NIJS, JAN en AALTJE NIJS.' Closing: 'Aldus geinventariseert aan CABO DE GOEDE HOOP desen 22 Meij 1713', signed by the committed Orphan Masters G. Baarsenburg and Michiel Ley, with the secretary present. WHAT IT SETTLES. Jan Nijs was a BURGER AT THE CAPE, he and his wife were both dead by May 1713, and their three surviving children are named. The date matches this model's existing death bound for PER-001474 EXACTLY - ../1713-05-22 - which is strong evidence that the man in this inventory is that row. WHAT IT DOES NOT SETTLE, and it is the open question: it names his WIFE, not his MOTHER. LEAD-0118 turns on who Jan's mother was, and this document is silent on it. IT DOES REMOVE ONE READING. His wife was LIJSBET JANSE DE RODE - not Marij Zacharias and not Janna Marij Bousijn, so neither of those women is the mother of his children. TWO OF THE THREE CHILDREN MATCH THE PRIVATE TREE: Antje against Anna Johanna De Nys (b. about 1695) and Aaltje against Aletta De Nys (b. 31 May 1699). Aaltje is the everyday form of Aletta and Antje of Anna - 5b - so this corroborates the generation below Jan while leaving the one above it open. [TO VERIFY] on the identification of Antje with Anna Johanna. NOTE THE ARCHIVE ATTRIBUTION, which is the same artefact 5a note 2 already records for SRC-077: a Cape MOOC record catalogued under Pietermaritzburg because that is where the microfilm sits. Anyone ordering the original should go to KAB. The collection title also says 1822-1990 and this document is 1713; the series is older than its catalogue name.
