Generation 11 of the anchor family's direct ancestry, on one of the ten lines set out in [S021]. NO PLACE IMPORTED, per 5. Dates as the tree gives them. This row exists to carry a link, and a tree is not a register: nothing here is established until the Cape records are read, which is what S021's provisional banner says.

Verouderd — hieronder beantwoord [SRC-299] HE IS IN THE RECORD, and the death bound this row already carried is confirmed by it. The estate inventory taken at the Cape of Good Hope on 22 MAY 1713 is headed 'wijlen den burger JAN NIJS en desselfs overleedene huijsvrouw LIJSBET JANSE DE RODE', for the benefit of their THREE CHILDREN, ANTJE NIJS, JAN and AALTJE NIJS. Both parents were dead by then. The date matches the ../1713-05-22 this model already held, which is what identifies the man. [SRC-300] A baptism of 3 April 1701 at Cape Town gives 'Jan Nijs en Elisab[eth] [illegible]', child JOHANNES - very likely the 'Jan' of the three. Lijsbet is the everyday form of Elisabeth. HIS WIFE WAS NOT EITHER OF THE TWO WOMEN IN LEAD-0118. Not Marij ZachariasM, not Janna Marij Bousijn. Those concern his MOTHER, and both documents are silent on her, which is exactly the gap that lead is about. Display name changed from 'Jan De Nys' to the register's own JAN NIJS with the tree's spelling kept alongside; the documents write Nijs.

[FS LV88-RFZ] THE FAMILYSEARCH FAMILY VIEW SHOWS THE BREAK ON ITS OWN PAGE. He is listed as a child of the marriage of Jacob Jansz De Nijs (LJR9-74B) and Marij ZachariasM (LJR9-7H8), DATED 4 DECEMBER 1672 AT MAURITIUS - and his own birth is 1671. Born before the marriage he is filed under. The other two children of that couple are born 1691 and 1692, TWENTY YEARS after him. HIS OWN MARRIAGE IS CLEAN AND FULLY CORROBORATED: Lijsbet Jansz Fockese De Roode (LV88-19V, 1677-1713), married 8 AUGUST 1694 AT MAURITIUS, four children - Anna Johanna 1695, Aletta 1699, Johannes 1701, Jacobus 1702. [SRC-299], the 1713 inventory, names THREE surviving: Antje, Jan and Aaltje. Anna Johanna, Johannes and Aletta. Jacobus, born 1702, is the one missing, so he died between 1702 and 1713. The inventory and the tree agree exactly once the everyday name forms are read as such. Both spouses dead in 1713, which is what the inventory says.

[SRC-301] HE WAS NOT BORN AT THE CAPE. A published genealogy: 'Jan Nys, ook genoem JAN DE RYE. v. DUSSELDORF. trou Mauritius (AS SOLDAAT) 8.8.1694 met Lysbeth Fockese Roda. In 1696 is hy BOSWAGTER op Mauritius en in 1699 BURGER AAN DIE KAAP. oorlede 1713.' A German who came out as a VOC soldier, married at Mauritius, worked as a forest ranger there, and reached the Cape as a burgher in 1699. THE PARENTAGE THIS MODEL CARRIED FOR HIM IS THEREFORE WRONG, and the link to Marij ZachariasM was already excluded on the arithmetic before this arrived. He has no Cape parents. That ends the descent from MARIA VAN BENGALE (PER-001447), which ran to this family only through him - LEAD-0118 closed. Display name changed to the form the genealogy uses. His alias JAN DE RYE is worth carrying: an immigrant's name written several ways is exactly what 5a note 6 says to keep rather than tidy.

[6 Aug 2026] BOTH PARENTS ARE WRONG, NOT ONLY THE MOTHER, and saying 'his mother was wrong' understated it. If he came from Duesseldorf as a soldier then JACOB JANSZ DE NIJS (FS LJR9-74B, placed at AMSTERDAM, born about 1650) is not his father either. Amsterdam and Duesseldorf are two hundred kilometres and a border apart. HIS FATHER IS UNKNOWN AND WOULD BE A DUESSELDORF MAN. Nothing in this project reaches him, and nothing in it should pretend to. NOTE HOW THE WRONG FAMILY WAS ACQUIRED, because it is the oldest trap in this repository: NYS against DE NIJS is a surname match and nothing more. 9 says never to match a person by name alone, always name plus date plus place - and here the date fails (a son born a year before the wedding), the place fails (Duesseldorf against Amsterdam), and only the name ever agreed. The genealogy even gives him a second name, JAN DE RYE, which is what an immigrant's name does in the records and exactly what makes surname matching unsafe. The model never carried a father row for him, so there is nothing here to exclude; the false father is in the tree and on FamilySearch, which is where it needs correcting - LEAD-0119.
