De Villiers (SRC-656, Deel 3, VENTER) agrees: 'Willem, gedoopt 23 Augustus 1761, burger te Stellenbosch, gehuwd 7 April 1782 met Christina Wilhelmina Goertse'. Children on FamilySearch: Jan Adriaan 1784 (GJX9-JGY), Maria Christina 1785-1875 (LHV6-M8T), Wilhelmina Catharina 1786 (LHV6-M3F), Roelof Hendrik 1790 (LCTM-PXY), Hester Elisabeth 1792-1862 (LHV6-MF7), Jan Adriaan 1794-1829 (GZGT-K2S), Catharina Jacomina Koekemoer 1795 (L5YD-PX2), Anna Christina 1798-1880 (L7FW-QRG), Willem 1800-1835 (972T-NTB), Cornelia Petronella 1802-1878 (P3FN-5BD). He appears as a living man: (1) MOOC8/46.28, estate of Tobias Christian Rönnenkamp, taken 16 May 1793: 'Willem VenterL ADRIAANSZOON over een vendubrief d:d: 15 Jannuarij 1793', Rd 7:12 - the patronymic agrees with De Villiers' father Jan Adriaan; (2) MOOC8/50.62b, 1790: 'Willem VenterL' signs as surety; (3) MOOC8/55.31a, estate of Barend Lindeque, 27 January 1804: owed 'van Willem VenterL over aan hem geleverde planken', Rd 175 - a Willem VenterL alive and trading in timber in 1804 [the same man TO VERIFY]. A POSSIBLE LATER TRACE, NOT ASSERTED: MOOC8/75.11, the return of wills produced to the Orphan Chamber agent at Graaff-Reinet, July-September 1830, lists the mutual will of 'the late Gerbregt Elisabeth Potgieter and surviving husband WILLEM ADRIAAN VENTER' made before seven witnesses on 15 May 1829. His daughter's death notice calls him 'W.A. Venter' (SRC-660), so the initials fit; but FamilySearch has his wife Christina Wilhelmina CoertzeH living until 1840, which a second wife dead by 1830 contradicts. Either a second marriage FamilySearch lacks, or another Willem Adriaan VenterM [TO VERIFY].
