[SRC-010, SRC-625] Trooper, 2ND BRABANT'S REGIMENT, killed in the skirmish in DIE GANG on 2 February 1901, the same action in which Lance Corporal Boyd and Johannes KleuM (PER-000518) died. Buried beside Boyd and reinterred with him in the churchyard of the CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD at Klaarstroom (CEM-477). *** HIS GUILD CROSS IS WRONG TWICE OVER, AND eGGSA SAYS SO: the name is engraved HIRSCHFORD and the date is given as 4 FEBRUARY 1901. *** The eGGSA caption follows the stone, which is why this project's harvest carries him as 'HIRSCHFORDS -1901' and why no search on Gishford would have found him. A worked example of 5a: a transcription is a promise about what is on the paper, and what is on the paper can itself be wrong. The house spelling here is GISHFORD, from the cameo; the stone's HIRSCHFORD is kept as the variant.
