Augusta Cornelia Neser (1866-1956)

[11 Aug 2026, MED-000024] THE WIFE OF JOHANNES BARNARD MALHERBE (PER-001551), who was killed at Spioenkop on 24 January 1900. She is in this model because of one photograph and its inscription, "Jan en Gussie Malherbe", and nothing else. MALHERBE IS HER MARRIED NAME, NOT HER MAIDEN NAME, and her maiden name is not known. That is unusual for a row here and it is stated plainly so nobody later reads the surname as a family. GUSSIE IS AUGUSTA, on the file name the photograph was supplied under. No birth, no death, no marriage date, no parents. She is dated 189X on the sitting alone: her sleeves are the full leg-of-mutton of about 1893 to 1897, which is also the period the flourished route uses to publish her. SHE WAS WIDOWED IN JANUARY 1900. Whether she is the same woman as any Augusta already in this model has NOT been tested and should not be assumed. [TO VERIFY]

[11 Aug 2026, SRC-396, SRC-397] SHE HAS A NAME AND A LIFE NOW, and this row has been rewritten. When it was made an hour earlier all it had was "Gussie" off the back of a photograph, with Malherbe as a married name and a maiden name that was not known. She is AUGUSTA CORNELIA NESER, born at COLESBERG on 20 August 1866 and baptised there on 14 October, daughter of CHRISTIAAN PETRUS NESER and JOHANNA CATHARINA JOUBERT. FamilySearch GCKK-SBY. SHE MARRIED at Venterstad on 12 February 1895, aged 26, out of RIETJIESFONTEIN in that district, at the house of J. F. van Zyl. She was widowed at Spioenkop five years later, in January 1900, with two small children. SHE OUTLIVED HIM BY FIFTY-SIX YEARS and died on 14 August 1956 at VREDEFORT in the Orange Free State, six days short of ninety. Her estate file is indexed under Augusta Cornelia NeserH Malherbe. TWO CHILDREN on FamilySearch, both dead and neither dated: COMFORT MALHERBE (GCKK-Q3S) and JULIE MALHERBE, later DE KLERK (GCKK-96D). Neither is entered here. Comfort is an unusual name for this family and this place, and it is recorded exactly as the tree gives it.
