Navorsingsnotas
[SRC-343] THE MAN IN GRV-0661, whose stone eGGSA reads only as "D.J. 19?5 Verwey". His death notice names him in full: DANIEL JACOBUS VERWEY, of KNOFFEL RIVIER, a stock farmer ("Boer Vee"), died 16 SEPTEMBER 1915 at Knoffel Rivier in the district of Prince Albert, aged SIXTY YEARS SEVEN MONTHS AND ELEVEN DAYS. That age counts back to a birth on 5 FEBRUARY 1855, which is the birth_edtf here; FamilySearch gives 1855 independently. Born in the Colony, married, white.
CAUSE OF DEATH "BEL ROOS", erysipelas, after an illness of FIVE DAYS. The doctor is named only as LUTTIG. This project holds three Luttigs (PER-000010, PER-000065, PER-000068) and does not say which, or whether any, this is: J.R.G. LuttigM died in 1914 and so cannot be, and the other two carry no dates. [TO VERIFY]
The informant was his own wife, signing B. M. W. VERWEIJ, as "naastaande bloedverwante tegenwoordig bij den dood". The form was written out for her by J. H. VAN ZYL as witness and signed 29 September 1915.
THE NOTICE SAYS FIFTEEN CHILDREN. FamilySearch gives ten by his first wife and nine by his second, which is nineteen. The form asks for the total the deceased HAD, so either four are not his, or the widow counted the living. [TO VERIFY]
These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
