[8 Aug 2026] READ. "NO. B. 19/1886. The numerical data of this diagram are sufficiently consistent. (Sgd.) Max Jurisch. Examiner." Caption verbatim: "The above diagram coloured green represents the remaining portion of the farm KLAARSTROOM in extent 8413 morgen 140 square roods situate in the Zwartberg - Division of PRINCE ALBERT." Bounded North by Crownland, South by Welgemond & Vrolykheid, East by Vrolykheid, West by Middlewater. "Resurveyed under Act No. 9 1879, and framed by me. (Sgd.) J. A. Thwaits. Govt. Surveyor." Scale 200 Cape roods to one inch. Copy stamp: "Copied from diagram relating to Title Deed No. P.A.Q.3-20 dated 18.8.1886", re-stamped for the Surveyor-General 27.5.1963. "For list of deductions see back of diagram" - and that verso IS held, as DOC-0199 (B.19/1886 (verso), released under publish_ok on 5 Aug). Sheets SL, BL3, BL4, BL-4ACA.
[8 Aug 2026] SAME HAND AND SAME OPERATION AS MIDDELWATER. Thwaits surveyed, Jurisch examined, both under Act 9 of 1879, three years apart - Middelwater October 1883 (DOC-0001), Klaarstroom 1886 - and the two titles sit in one quitrent volume, P.A.Q.3-3 and P.A.Q.3-20. THE TWO SHEETS ALSO AGREE WITH EACH OTHER: this one names Middlewater as its western boundary and Middelwater's own names Klaarstroom as its eastern. Two diagrams drawn three years apart, each independently placing the other. KLEINVLEI is drawn at the south-western corner here too, which is a second independent sheet putting Klein Vlei on the ground as a neighbouring farm rather than a portion of anything (see PAR-000041).
[8 Aug 2026] LOT B IS PORTION 1. The lot tables give Lot B as 9 MORGEN 167 SQUARE ROODS, which is Barry's 1858 arable strip on the Groot River to the square rood (DOC-0190, PAR-000151). By 1886 it was already out, and this sheet shows it out.
[8 Aug 2026] LOT A IS NOT IN THIS MODEL. 7 morgen 188 square roods, given as a rectilinear 7 morgen 215 square roods less 27 for the river boundary. A second small riverside lot beside the arable, and the project holds no parcel for it. LEAD-0137.
[8 Aug 2026] AND IT RECONCILES A 30% DISAGREEMENT INSIDE PAR-000097. That row carries 6,498 morgen (5,565.7 ha) as its extent and 7,257.1 ha as the Surveyor-General's area for farm 178, which cannot both describe one boundary. THE 1886 REMAINDER IS 8,413 MORGEN 140 ROODS = 7,206.2 HA, WITHIN 0.7% OF THE MODERN 7,257.1. So the two figures are two different farms in time: 6,498 morgen is Klaarstroom before Thwaits, and the modern cadastral farm is the Remainder he left. The farm GREW by 1,932 morgen counting both lots - and Middelwater grew 1,888 morgen under the same Act, the same surveyor and the same examiner. Two farms enlarged by almost exactly the same amount is either what an Act 9 of 1879 resurvey did to the Government ground lying between the old loan farms, or a coincidence. [TO VERIFY] against a third resurveyed farm in this district.
[8 Aug 2026] Also on the face: a rectangle marked "Pln. 4" drawn beside the werf, which is where the town of Klaarstroom stands (STO-0014, PAR-000097). Not transcribed further here.
