Household goods, a wagon, a gun, tools, 33 sheep. Debts: to the Orphan Masters Rd 1050; to Louies Nel 200, STEPHANUS ERASMUS 100, Jacob Beck 52, Jacobus Nel 30, BAREND KOORTSE 200. Due to the estate: 'een obligatie geteekend van ANDRIES VAN TONDER DE OUDE CORNELIS ZOON in dato den 12 December 1789', Rd 55; Barend Beukes 2. 'Aldus geinventariceert OP DE PLAATS VAN CORNELIS VAN TONDER GENAAMD DOLFS KRAAL GELEEGEN IN DE COUP onder 't district van TULBAGH onder de wijk van den proviecionele veldcornet PIETER ERNST KRUGER'. Witnesses W.A. Germishuijsen, Adolph Jonker. WHY IT MATTERS: VAN TONDERS IN THE KOUP. A Cornelis van Tonder held a farm DOLFS KRAAL in the Koup while it lay under Tulbagh, and a Roelof van Tonder died there; P.E. Kruger is veldcornet of a Couph ward on the Beaufort roll of early 1824 (SRC-634). The date is not in the transcription; 'district of Tulbagh' for the Koup and a PROVISIONAL veldcornet Kruger suggest before the Beaufort district of 1818 [TO VERIFY]. WHICH ROELOF is open: Susanna Catharina van Tonder's brother Roelof (b. 1761, d. 1831 per the tree) had a wife not yet recorded here; the tree's death year would not fit an estate filed under Tulbagh. No farm named Dolfskraal survives in the CSG name index. Stephanus Erasmus and Barend Koortse among the creditors are the names of the Roode Klip and Dwyka stories (SRC-650, SRC-637). LEAD-0353. | [17 Sep 2026] De Villiers (SRC-656, Deel 3 p. 440) has Roelof, baptised 26 Apr 1761, burger of Graaff-Reinet, married 29 Jun 1788 Maria Magdalena van den Berg: Susanna Catharina van Tonder's brother. His last child listed there was baptised in 1812, which hints that the inventory is later than that [TO VERIFY; the register's list of children is not complete]. | [22 Sep 2026] DATE WINDOW: the Koup was 'onder 't district van Tulbagh' only from 15 July 1804, when General Janssens gave that name to the country west of the Gamka (Records of the Cape Colony vol. V p. 114, SRC-662), until the Beaufort district of 1818. So this inventory falls in 1804-1818.
