KLUE *** HE WAS A WIDOWER, AND FAMILYSEARCH DOES NOT HOLD THE FIRST WIFE. *** MTP1-F92 shows this 1929 marriage and no other, and no children. The register says WEWENAAR at sixty, so there is an earlier marriage and possibly a family somewhere before 1929 that is not on his profile. That is the gap worth working. *** AND IT ANSWERS WHY HE IS BURIED AT DE RUST. *** Frans, on reading it: 'so his wife, le roux, was already at de rust'. He was farming at KOPJES; she was the SCHOOLTEACHER at De Rust, forty and unmarried. He came to her place. He died at Oudtshoorn in February 1940 and the headstone stands at De Rust, which is hers rather than his. THE TWO WITNESSES LOOK LIKE HIS BROTHERS AND ARE NOT ASSERTED AS SUCH. A. H. KLUE fits ANDREAS HERCULES KLUE (1867-1936, G3LD-764) and A. M. S. KLUE fits ANTON MICHIEL SALOMON KLEU (1873-1946, MTP1-FSZ), both among the twelve children of Joseph Klue and Jacoba Ferreira. Initials are not a match under 9. [TO VERIFY] HE SIGNS HIMSELF KLUE, and FamilySearch carries him as KLEU. One man, both spellings, in his own hand. KOPJES is a place this project does not hold. Whether it is a farm in the Oudtshoorn or Uniondale district, and whether it is the Koppieskraal this record already warns about, is unchecked. [TO VERIFY] *** AND LE ROUX IS THE SECOND WIFE, WHICH IS THE POINT RATHER THAN A DETAIL. *** [FAMILY] Mind you, his second wife. A man of sixty moved to his new wife's village and was buried there ten years later. Wherever the FIRST wife lies, and wherever any children of that marriage are, it is NOT De Rust. So the De Rust headstone is the end of his life and not the centre of it, and the ground to search for the earlier household is KOPJES, or Buffelsklip and Uniondale where he was born. LEAD-0332. *** KOPJES IS NOT AN OUDTSHOORN FARM, AND THIS ROW GUESSED THAT IT MIGHT BE. *** SRC-611, an affidavit he swore seventeen days before this wedding, gives his address as NOOITGEDACHT, DISTRIK VREDEFORT and is sworn at KOPJES. That is the ORANGE FREE STATE. So the man who married the De Rust schoolteacher on 24 December 1929 was a Free State farmer who had buried his first wife at Kroonstad in February of that year and closed her estate on 7 December. He came back to the Cape to marry. [corrected 2 Sep 2026] [2 Sep 2026, SECOND CORRECTION] The paragraph above reads KOPJES as the Free State town on the strength of the affidavit SRC-611. Frans's judgement is that the affidavit belongs to a DIFFERENT Johannes Diederik Klue, born about 1879, and if that holds then this register's KOPJES is unidentified again and the Free State reading was an inference rather than the document's. Both readings are left standing. See SRC-612 and LEAD-0332.
