No film or image number is visible in the crop, so the collection is [TO VERIFY] under 5a-ii; the congregation and the years are the register's own heading and are not inferred. *** THE ENTRY WANTED IS LINE 66 ON PAGE 126: *** 'Johannes Diederik Kleu', OUD 20, aangenomen 19 April 1889, voorgesteld 20 April 1889. Line 65 immediately above him carries the same two dates in full and the rest of the column runs on ditto marks. IT PLACES THE DE RUST MAN IN HIS OWN DISTRICT AT TWENTY. Johannes Diederik Kleu, FamilySearch MTP1-F92, was born at BUFFELSKLIP, UNIONDALE on 23 December 1869, confirmed here at OUDTSHOORN in April 1889, married at DE RUST in December 1929, died at OUDTSHOORN in February 1940 and is buried at De Rust. Five records, one small country. THE AGE IS OUT BY A YEAR AND IT IS RECORDED RATHER THAN SMOOTHED. Born 23 December 1869 he was NINETEEN YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS on 19 April 1889, and the clerk wrote 20. Membership rolls commonly take the year a person turns rather than the age on the day, and this project has watched an age like that be mistaken for a different man twice this week. *** AND A USEFUL ABSENCE. NEITHER PAGE CARRIES A SUSANNA MARIA KLEU OR KLUE. *** Seventy-five names across the two leaves and exactly one of this surname, his. The women on them are Snyman, Spies, Lamprecht, Olivier, Schoeman, Krotier, Vos and the rest. She is the one this project needs, as the transferee of Vaste Water in April 1923 (PER-000326), and she is not here. The neighbouring names are worth knowing for later: VAN DER WESTHUIZEN four times on these two pages, at lines 55, 65, 74, 79 and 80.
