The opening is headed '1821 den 11 Maart. Door den Eerwaarde Heer J.J. KICHERER getrouwt.' *** THE PATRONYMIC IS THE FINDING. *** 'STEPH:s ZOON' - Stephanus's son - is INDEPENDENT DOCUMENTARY CONFIRMATION that Lodewyk Bothma's father was Stephanus Botma (PER-001937). Until this page that parentage rested on a FamilySearch card alone (SRC-597), and 5a-i is explicit that FS settles spelling and not fact. A clerk in 1821 writing the man's own patronymic is the register doing what registers do, and it is the reason this project reads patronymics at all (S044). | ENTRY 1 OF THE SAME OPENING, 11 March 1821, marries JOHANNES PAULUS BOTMA, burger alhier, jongman, to ENGELA ELISABETH JACOBA BIN[?C]KER. A brother married three weeks before him, in the same church, in the same month the register opens. | AND IT PLACES THE FAMILY. Both men are entered as 'BURGER ALHIER', burghers OF WORCESTER, in 1821. Lodewyk marries at Worcester again in 1834 and his son is born in the Roggeveld that December. That is three fixes on the western side of the colony in the years LEAD-0320 is asking about, and it strengthens the reading that the Spreeufontein of the family's memory is the LAINGSBURG one rather than the Prince Albert farm they reached about 1871. | The minister is J.J. KICHERER, the London Missionary Society man who later served the Dutch Reformed congregation here.
