Sr., Clan William. 13th January, 1834.' Title Clw.Q.3-16 of 1 November 1838. | *** THE SURVEYOR IS THE CONNECTION, NOT THE OWNER. *** S035 already names J.M. Wentzel of Clanwilliam as the man who surveyed FOUR farms connected to this family within four years for the Commissie van Inspectie - Oude Muur and Lokenburg among them, both in 1820. This is the same surveyor and the same office, fourteen years later, in the same field cornetcy the family lived in. That is context, not ownership. | SO IT DOES NOT ANSWER LEAD-0151 AND IT NARROWS IT. Frans Jacobus Wilhelmus van der Merwe was born at a Matjiesfontein on 24 March 1863, twenty-nine years after this survey, so the farm could have changed hands - but nothing on the sheet puts a van der Merwe on or beside it. Calvinia 601 and 679 are still unread. | The map face carries an 'Ordie dwells hous' with 'west permt springs' beside it, 16 morgen cultivated, and the portion names the farm later took: Goedgedacht, Zaailand, Vogelstruis Plaats, Matjesfontein A. | *** [18 Aug 2026] THE ASSESSMENT ABOVE IS WITHDRAWN IN PART. *** It says no van der Merwe is on the title or the boundaries, which is true, and concludes the farm is probably not the one, which does not follow. THE VAN DER MERWES MARRIED LOUWS: Schalk Willem x Anna Jacoba Louw at Tulbagh in 1812, and Lokenburg came into the family through her father's widow in 1820. A Louw on the title of a farm in the next field cornetcy is therefore a reason to look harder, not to look away. Whether Daniel Jacobus Louw is kin to Jacobus Adriaan Louw is untested.
