THE FINDING, AND IT IS AN IDENTIFICATION BY ID RATHER THAN BY NAME. Carel Aaron van der Merwe (L28K-3HM, PER-001639) and Elsje Johanna van Heerden (2CBR-2BT, PER-001640) married at CAPE TOWN ON 20 JANUARY 1793 and had SIX children: Schalk Willem 1794-1866 (LC3Q-F7L, PER-001635), JOHANNA SOPHIA 1796-1872 (LWFG-THQ), Carel Petrus 1798-1847 (LCR8-TYY), LOUISA JACOBA 1802-1845 (LZ2Z-2XD), Jacobus Alewyn 1804-1870 (G7YZ-1N5, PER-001633) and Izaak Johannes 1808-1839 (LWFH-R86, PER-001658). TWO OF THOSE IDS WERE ALREADY IN THIS PROJECT, WRITTEN DOWN YESTERDAY FOR A DIFFERENT REASON. SRC-386 recorded LWFG-THQ as the mother of Anna Maria Visagie, the first wife of PER-001629, and LZ2Z-2XD as the mother of Maria Magdalena Visagie. They are the same women. So JOHANNA SOPHIA and LOUISA JACOBA VAN DER MERWE, sisters, daughters of Carel Aaron, each married a Visagie - Izaak Heremias and Hendrik Johannes - and the Visagie line that keeps appearing beside this family is a van der Merwe line coming back round. LEAD-0161 is closed by this. WHAT IT MAKES OF THE 1863 FONT. Helena Janetta Elizabeth Visagie and Hendrina Maria Johanna Visagie, the two witnesses at PER-000762's baptism (SRC-378), are granddaughters of Carel Aaron through those two sisters. The child's father, Schalk Willem Burger, is Carel Aaron's great-grandson. They stood at that font as FIRST COUSINS ONCE REMOVED of the father, not as neighbours who happened to be there. AND IT MAKES THE 1851 MARRIAGE A COUSIN MARRIAGE. Anna Maria Visagie was Johanna Sophia's daughter, so she and Schalk Willem Burger were first cousins once removed, both descending from Carel Aaron. His SECOND marriage, to Elsje Johanna van der Merwe, was to a first cousin. This line married its cousins twice running. SCHALK WILLEM 1794-1866 x ANNA JACOBA LOUW (LZ8C-176, PER-001636) MARRIED AT TULBAGH ON 6 DECEMBER 1812, and FamilySearch lists TWELVE children: Jacobus Adriaan 1813-1855 (9689-D35, PER-001631); Jacobus Adriaan 1814-1868 (LZ8C-1C5); Elsje Johanna Jacoba 1815-1860 (L5RN-X1X); Carel Aaron 1817-1838 (LZ8C-1DV); Maria Catharina Elizabeth 1819- (M9P6-VC8); Schalk Willem Jacobus 1822-1910 (LZ8C-1TR); Anna Jacoba Louisa 1823-1893 (LZ8C-1VT); Petrus Johannes Jacobus 1825- (LZ8C-1NS); Johanna Christina Adriana 1827-1898 (LQ5X-6S5); JACOBUS NEL van der Merwe 1829-1907 (LHXR-HFK); FRANCOIS JACOBUS 1832-1903 (LZ8C-1RM); Elizabeth Susanna LOUW van der Merwe 1836-1892 (LZ8C-1PY). TWO OF THOSE TWELVE ARE BOTH CALLED JACOBUS ADRIAAN, born 1813 and 1814 and dying 1855 and 1868. A Cape family reused a name after a death; it did not give it to two living sons a year apart. One of these is very likely a duplicate on FamilySearch. FIX-0005. It matters here because the 1813 one is this project's direct ancestor. THREE OF THE NAMES CARRY A MOTHER'S OR A NEIGHBOUR'S SURNAME AS A MIDDLE NAME - Jacobus NEL, Elizabeth Susanna LOUW - which is the same habit that produced Schalk Willem BURGER. NOTHING FROM THIS LIST HAS BEEN IMPORTED. Only the two marriage dates, one FamilySearch id and the kinship finding above are written into the model. The eight children on the 1866 death notice (LEAD-0144) are the same people as most of this list, and importing them is a decision for Frans, not for this pass. 10.

Woordeliks gehou. Hierdie projek weerspreek gepubliseerde genealogieë en stel 'n familie se eie mondelinge oorlewering reg, so elke bewering moet nagegaan kan word deur iemand wat nie in die vertrek was nie.
