Die sitasie soos dit gegee is

THE ORIGINAL HAND, AND IT LISTS THE WERF. Where the typed copy gives only extents, the manuscript enumerates the buildings standing on the farm in 1820: "waarop staande gebouwen als: No 1. het WOONHUIS. No 2. de STAL. No 3. het KOORN HUIS. No 4. een gebouw in verscheidene vertrekken verdeeld. en No 5. het WAGEN HUIS." A dwelling house, a stable, a corn house, a building divided into several rooms, and a wagon house. That is the homestead Schalk Willem van der Merwe would die on forty-six years later, described while it stood. Signed "Gemeeten voor Mevrouw Jacs. A. Louw den 17 February 1820, door my J. Schutte, gezw. Landmeter" - the same widow, named here as Mevrouw rather than Wede. The face also writes the neighbouring loan farm out in full: 'Leeningsplaats van Pieter van Zijl en de Wed. Jacs. A. Louw gend. Mensieskraal' - so she held an interest in TWO loan farms, one of them jointly with a van Zyl. And 'Leeningsplaats van J. Mosterd genaamd de Quispberg' to the west. The figure is drawn with the 3000-morgen leeningsplaats as a circle inside the 4971-morgen erfpacht land, which is how a loan farm was defined: a half-hour's walk in every direction from the werf. [TO VERIFY] some words on this scan are faint and the reading of the building list is confident; the neighbour annotations are less so.

Woordeliks gehou. Hierdie projek weerspreek gepubliseerde genealogieë en stel 'n familie se eie mondelinge oorlewering reg, so elke bewering moet nagegaan kan word deur iemand wat nie in die vertrek was nie.
