[SRC-559] Enrolled at line 3 of the 1822 Beaufort roll with KLAARE STROOM against him in the LEENINGS PLAATS column, married to CATHARINA BEATRIX OLIVIER. *** HE IS THE FIRST NAMED HOLDER THIS PROJECT HAS FOR THE 1777 LOAN FARM DE CLAAR STROOM (PAR-000004), which until now carried no holder at all. *** Created under 6's amendment - the profile boundary extends to people related to the land, whether or not they sit in the tree, and a thin record of name, date, land link and source is enough. NO DATES: none is given by the roll and none is invented. A Barend du PreezH is line 4 and an Isabella Rachel du Preez line 7 of the same page; no kinship is asserted between them.

*** [TREE, 28 Aug 2026] IDENTIFIED IN THE PRIVATE TREE, AND NOT ON HIS NAME. *** HERMANUS CAREL DU PREEZ, born 4 October 1760 at Tulbagh, died 14 July 1839, married CATHARINA BEATRIX OLIVIER (PER-001943), born 27 April 1772 in the Roggeveld, died 7 December 1857 at Cape Town. THE WIFE'S NAME IS WHAT MAKES IT: the 1822 roll names her beside him, and the tree gives the same three names to the same man. He was 61 in 1822, a settled householder. *** THE NAME ALONE WOULD HAVE GIVEN THE WRONG MAN, AND IT NEARLY DID. *** The tree holds a second HERMANUS CAREL DU PREEZ,, born 15 September 1795 - this man's own SON - who is married to ELSIE SUSANNA DU PREEZ and so cannot be the man beside Catharina Beatrix on the roll. He was 26 in 1822. That is 9 working exactly as written: name AND date AND place, never name. A CONVERGENCE WORTH TESTING, NOT ASSERTING: line 4 of the same roll page is a BAREND DU PREEZ, and this couple have a son Barend born 29 January 1804, who would be 18. Line 7's Isabella Rachel du Preez does NOT fit their daughter Johanna Rachel Isabella Petronella, born 1813 and so nine years old, who cannot head a line on a tax roll. He appears in none of the three family-tree that carry _FID, so there is nothing here to derive one from; it has to be looked up on FamilySearch against these dates. LEAD-0325.

*** [TREE, 28 Aug 2026] ISABELLA RACHEL IS HIS SISTER, NOT HIS DAUGHTER, AND THIS ROW SAID OTHERWISE THE SAME DAY. *** The note above has line 7 of the 1822 roll could not be their daughter Johanna Rachel Isabella Petronella, who was nine. It is not. His own father JOHANNES LODEWICUS DU PREEZ (, b. before 9 Oct 1729) and MARIA POTGIETER had a daughter ISABELLA RACHEL DU PREEZ () born about 1772, who was FIFTY in 1822 and can perfectly well head a line on a tax roll. So lines 3 and 7 of that page are a BROTHER AND SISTER, which is a better corroboration of this identification than the one I first reached for. [TO VERIFY] against the roll itself.

His parents are therefore Johannes Lodewicus du Preez and Maria Potgieter; his siblings include Philippus Jacobus (1752), Johannes Lodewikus (1758), Jacobus Hercules (1762), Isabella Elisabeth (1771), Isabella Rachel (1772) and Pieter Daniel (1774).

His father's brother's line runs to the du Preez household baptising at Prince Albert in 1873 (SRC-604), so he and Andries Lourens du Preez (1787-1850) are SECOND COUSINS and this district's two du Preez families are one.
