[17 Aug 2026] SIBLING OF PETRUS GIDEON VAN RENSBURG [PER-000173], Frans's great-grandfather, and therefore an aunt or uncle of Maria Magritha "Ria" van Rensburg. In scope under 6, which takes direct ancestors together with their siblings.
SHE OUTLIVED THEM ALL, dying in 1974 at eighty-six, and she married a FREDERIK JACOBUS VAN ZYL. The tree gives her death place as Kempton Park. She is the sister most likely to have been an aunt Ria knew as an adult, and therefore the first person to test against the Somerset West story. LEAD-0212.

HER ELDEST WAS ANOTHER MARTHA GERTRUIDA - Martha Gertruida van Zyl, born 2 September 1908 at Prieska, died 25 DECEMBER 1949 AT CAPE TOWN. She is Ria's first cousin and twenty years older than her, which is exactly the distance at which a child calls a cousin "aunt". She is the best candidate this record offers for the Martha at Somerset West, and she is not in this model: a first cousin of the anchor's grandmother is a degree beyond the scope rule. LEAD-0212.
HER OWN HOUSEHOLD WENT THE OTHER WAY, which counts against her as the Somerset West aunt: Prieska, then Windhoek, then Kempton Park, where she died in 1974.
