*** [28 Aug 2026] A NAMESAKE TRAP, RECORDED BEFORE IT CATCHES ANYBODY. *** SRC-604's second entry names a FREDERIK FRANCOIS DE WIT married to ELIZABETH SUSANNA JOHANNA DU PREEZ, baptising a daughter at Prince Albert in July 1873; FamilySearch gives that man as G61L-XT1, 1842-1914, married at Oudtshoorn on 22 April 1872, ten children. THIS ROW IS A DIFFERENT MAN: LR3F-NFS, 1852-1924, married MAGDALENA MARIA OOSTHUIZEN, nine children, none of whose names or years match the other family's. Two Frederik Francois de Wits, ten years apart, both fathering children at Prince Albert from 1873. Do not merge them and do not let one's dates drift onto the other.
*** [FS LR3F-NFS, 28 Aug 2026] THE TRAP IS CONFIRMED AND IT IS TIGHTER THAN IT LOOKED. *** This man married MAGDALENA MARIA OOSTHUIZEN (PER-000376, LR3F-P5X) at PRINCE ALBERT on 20 JANUARY 1873, nine children. The other Frederik Francois de Wit, G61L-XT1 (1842-1914), married ELIZABETH SUSANNA JOHANNA DU PREEZ at OUDTSHOORN on 22 APRIL 1872, ten children. TWO WEDDINGS NINE MONTHS APART, TWO MEN OF THE SAME THREE NAMES, AND BOTH FIRST CHILDREN BORN IN 1873 - ours on 3 August, the other's on 3 May and baptised at Prince Albert in July (SRC-604). Nothing but the wife's surname tells the two households apart in a register that gives only the father's name.
HIS OWN LINE, RECORDED HERE AND NOT GIVEN ROWS: father PIETER HENDRIK DE WIT (b.1795, LH33-23W); grandparents PIETER HENDRIK DE WIT (b.1765, LH2J-73G) and MAGDALENA CHRISTINA KLOPPER (1768-1861, LCP1-S44), married at the Cape on 18 September 1791, eleven children. NO PERSON ROWS CREATED FOR THEM, DELIBERATELY: this is a spouse's own ancestry running out of the district, which is exactly what 9a's scope test calls off-track. The ids are written down so the line can be picked up in one click if a reason ever arrives.
