Kareekop (Karreekap Nr. 112, Fraserburg)

Janet Melville's descendant report has PER-000219 Jacobus Johannes Gideon van der MerweL marrying at Calvinia on 1 October 1917 as a "29 jarige boer van Kareekop". The model held him only on Biesies, which came later, so this is the earlier ground. NOT IN THE CADASTRE: no farm or portion named Kareekop exists in any of the sixteen divisions this project now holds, searched on both P_FARMNAME and FARM_NAME. That is NOT evidence against it - 5's second rule is that the cadastre records TITLE and not what people call the ground they live on, and a werf name that never reached a diagram is a real place. Compare Drooge Kloof (LEAD-0064) and Vischat (LEAD-0018). District Calvinia on the marriage entry; located no further. [TO VERIFY] Named here by id and not by his noemnaam: , "kola was a name often used in the family, so my greatgrandfather kola was not the only kola". The model tags exactly one Kola, which makes the name look like an identifier and it is not. See 5b. *** LOCATED 30 SEP 2026: KARREEKAP No. 112, FRASERBURG DIVISION. *** 3020 is a quarter-degree square - 30 to 31 south, 20 to 21 east - which is NORTH of Calvinia, not the 33 km north-east a first description had given, and that correction is what found it. THREE THINGS AGREE. (1) NAME: the cadastre writes KARREEKAP, doubling the r exactly as it does in KARREEBOOMPUTS No. 85 next door. (2) THE EXTERNAL RECORD: the collection puts the hill between a Kareekop farm and a Bleskrantz farm, and Karreekap No. 112 lies 8.4 km from BLESKRANS No. 300 (Calvinia) and 8.8 km from BLESSKRANS No. 82 (Fraserburg) - the two spellings of the same name either side of the division line. (3) FAMILY CONTEXT, which is what 9 asks for and a name match alone cannot give: it is 29.4 km from Brasse Fontein No. 371, where this family is recorded in 1895 and 1949, and 49.7 km from Biesies, PER-000219's own later farm - IN THE SAME REGISTRATION DIVISION. A man marrying off Kareekop in 1917 and farming Biesies afterwards has moved fifty kilometres inside one division, not across the country. IDENTIFIED, NOT PROVEN - the same standing as Welbedagt No. 555, and for the same reason: no document yet puts a van der Merwe on this title. [TO VERIFY] against the 1917 marriage register entry, which names the farm. What this REPLACES: an earlier pass recorded Kareekop as unlocatable after the cadastre and OpenStreetMap both came back empty. Both were searched on the wrong assumption about where to look; OSM still holds only a Garden Route peak of that name, 300 km away, which is a genuine namesake and not this place.
