A farmer, married, estate over 25 pounds, will known. Three children of age - C.J., S.J. and W.J. van Zyl - and four minors: Johanna Jacomina (16 Feb 1876), Jacobus Fredrik (6 Sep 1882), Adriana Su[si]lia (24 Apr 1886) and Ester Marea (24 Aug 1893). Reported by D.L. Botha, assistant veldkornet of the ward Klein Marico. *** HE WAS BORN AT MIDDELWATER AND DIED AT KLAARSTROOM. *** Not the Klaarstroom in the Koup - the one in the Marico, named in 1848 for the place its founder came from. A man born on the original farm died on the ground carrying the transplanted name, 900 km away, and one death notice holds both. Note also his minor daughter of 1886: ADRIANA - the Middelwater great-grandmother's name still running in the Transvaal fifty years after the family left.
