Keerom as rekwesplaas toegeken - omtrent 6 000 morg
1839–1843 · family · Prince Albert
After Retief's murder he and others turned back, and got as far as the place later called KEEROM. He meant to rest there before trekking on, liked it, and asked the NATALSE VOLKSRAAD to grant it to him. About 6,000 MORGEN was granted as a rekwesplaas under the occupation law of the day. NOTE WHAT THAT DATES: a Natalia grant means before the British annexation of 1843, so he was settled on Keerom more than twenty years before he laid a town out on it. [FAMILY]
