The roll drawn up a few days afterwards names 388 men and is openly incomplete. EXACTLY ONE VAN ZYL IS ON IT: "van Zyl, Jacobus". Whether that is the Jacobus Stephanus van Zyl who married Susanna Catharina Oosthuizen of Middelwater and later laid out Brandfort (PER-001265) IS NOT ESTABLISHED and is not claimed - see STO-0018 and the lead. Six of the white men and five of the Zulus were killed eleven days later at Opatikloof.
